We create brands that are deeply connected to vision, rich with meaning, and crafted to inspire, align, and endure. Beautiful Brand Intelligence.
United Chemists is a collective of independent pharmacies committed to being a trusted and accessible home for community health. In a category dominated by large discount chains and aggressive price-led messaging, its strength lay elsewhere: genuine relationships, regional presence, and personalised care.
The pharmaceutical retail sector is highly regulated, operationally complex and increasingly commoditised. Large warehouse competitors promise scale and savings. But marketing science consistently shows that long-term brand growth is built on distinctiveness and emotional memory structures, not price alone. Brands that invest in meaningful differentiation create stronger mental availability and sustained performance.
StudioBand® was engaged to undertake a full strategic rebrand. Our role was not simply to refresh identity, but to build a brand system that aligned purpose, culture and communication. The outcome needed to reflect who United Chemists truly is, while equipping the organisation for long-term growth.

The expanded colour system builds on United Chemists’ established pink, transforming it from a single identifier into a cohesive and flexible brand asset. This approach increases distinctiveness while allowing consistency across in-store, print and digital environments.

A distinctive illustration palette brings warmth and humanity into a highly regulated category. These expressive, community-inspired visuals create immediate recognition and emotional connection, reinforcing United Chemists’ role as a trusted local health partner rather than a transactional retail outlet.

United Chemists operates at scale, but its strength lies in its role as a trusted, local presence within each community it serves. Our approach focused on bringing this human dimension to the forefront — shifting the brand away from purely functional healthcare messaging toward something more personal, relatable and engaging.
We developed a suite of expressive, hand-crafted illustrations designed to reflect everyday moments of care, connection and wellbeing. These assets introduced warmth and personality into the brand, allowing United Chemists to communicate its values in a way that felt approachable and distinctly human, while remaining consistent across digital, print and in-store environments.
With a large and distributed network of pharmacies, the challenge extended beyond expression to scalability. The identity needed to work seamlessly across a wide range of touchpoints, from catalogues and social media to in-store communications, whilst maintaining clarity and recognition at every interaction.
Our solution was to create a flexible visual system that could adapt to different formats without losing its integrity. By combining structured layouts with a versatile illustration style, we ensured the brand could communicate consistently at scale, strengthening recognition and reinforcing United Chemists’ position as a cohesive, accessible and community-focused healthcare provider.

The catalogue redesign introduced a disciplined grid, generous white space and clearer hierarchy. In a saturated promotional environment, this restraint signals confidence, improves legibility and strengthens brand recall while remaining practical for internal production teams.

The United Chemists rebrand repositioned the organisation from a network of independent pharmacies to a cohesive, community-led healthcare brand.
By aligning strategy, language and design, we created a brand that behaves as well as it looks. It strengthens distinctiveness in a crowded market while remaining true to the people and communities it serves.
